PAG Public Meeting
7:30pm on Monday, January 21st 2013
at the Manx Legion, Market Street, Douglas
'News Matters'
with
Ron Berry & Bill Dale
The Tynwald review of funding of public broadcasting means 'Talk Radio' is under threat and the public needs to be assured there will be sufficient funding available to ensure the continuation of current affairs programmes like Mandate, Perspective, Agenda and Talking Heads and that any proposals from rival radio stations to take on the 'public broadcasting role' are not just financially motivated for their own personal interests.
Further, the threat of UK government intervention in the regulation of the written press could also mean the alternative method of obtaining information of public interest may also be stifled and we could then end up with a media blackout on the IoM of matters of public interest.
Is the the Manx media in a healthy state? Is ownership too narrow and about to become narrower still if Manx Radio / 3FM / and the Energy news service is amalagamated into one and reduced to just a couple of reporters - then will the Island recieve proper coverage of newsworthy events? We could end up with just two players in Manx Media with Johnston Press already dominating the printed and online media here.
As ever, admission is completely free. Hope to see you there!
[Apologies for the late notice, due to a last minute change of date to accommodate speakers and the website fella's man-flu.]
