In twelve months time there will be a new intake of MHKs. They will then elect a Chief Minister, who will, in turn, appoint 8 Departmental Ministers.
Collectively the Council of Ministers (CoMin) is the decision making body. It is popularly regarded as the Isle of Man Government, but it's not. In legal terms there is no such thing as the 'Isle of Man Government'.
We have 8 independent autonomous departments, each with its own Minister, fighting its own corner. That's the way it's been since 1986.
Is it now time to reform this system to better reflect the wishes of the people via a single, slimmed down, unified and less bureaucratic government?
MHK Chris Robertshaw has for many years considered that the current structure needs to be changed to make it more responsive and agile in a rapidly changing world.
Digital development would be key to success in order to meet the needs of both individuals and the economy.
Mr Robertshaw will not be standing in the 2021 General Election. He is pleased to be able to present his vision at this PAG public meeting.
Chris sums up his position by stating:"If we are going to deliver high quality health and social care for all and first class education for our children whilst still remaining a tax competitive jurisdiction with a strong economy we are going to have to think differently".
