Health and Social Care play an important role in our lives, and Minister, David Ashford MHK is certainly up for the challenge to deliver. When he was appointed at the start of this year, he became the third DHSC Minister in just under four years. His short term task was to provide stability and leadership within the Department. Now he is 'changing the direction of travel'. He is in no doubt about major challenges which loom to put the Island's services on a sustainable footing.

He promised 'I will work to set out a clear direction for the future, building on the foundations of the existing five-year strategy. The funding of health and social care services is a massive issue for countries around the world and I will work with my ministerial colleagues to serve the best interests of the people of the Isle of Man.'.
In the recently published Year 2 amended Programme for Government the aim is for us 'to live longer healthier lives'. The Minister's long term vision is to provide a 'wellman service'.
These are some of the actions required in the P4G:
This all has to be achieved whilst undertaking an an appraisal and develop strategy for the funding requirements for DHSC for the provision of services, by January 2019
Well, how has the Minister fared since January and what is the future as he sees it for DHSC?
