Meet the Minister (1)
'The Budget and Beyond'
Hon Eddie Teare MHK, Minister for Treasury
7.30 p.m. Monday 23rd March 2015
Manx Legion Club. Market Hill, Douglas
'A Fair and Balanced Vision for the Future' was the sub-text for the 2015 Manx Budget in February.
In his Budget speech to Tynwald the Treasury Minister asserted that the books had been balanced, vital services maintained and it is fair. He also asserted that it is the foundation of building systems, finances and services "for the next generation and not just for the next general election".
Predictably Mr Teare did the usual round of meetings with the business sector. After that he toured the Island explaining about changes being considered to state pension and social benefits.
This PAG meeting is the first time that the general public will have to hear and discuss the 2015 Budget with the Minister.
There has been doubt cast on the continued use of reserves and the ever present problem of funding public sector pensions. Cautionary words about Social Security and Pension Reform raise alarms for many. Consideration of future taxation strategy may also cause disquiet.
If you wish to question and discuss those issues which concern you, come along to the Legion on the 23rd March.
This is the first of a short series of PAG events called 'Meet the Minister':
On May 18th Health & Social Care Minister Howard Quayle, fresh from his New Zealand fact finding tour will face the public.
Later in the year (September) the topic will be 'Local Government Reform'.
